Astraeus Limited is a charter and scheduled airline based in Crawley (UK).

The airline operates a wide range of charter services to destinations throughout Europe, the Middle East and North Africa, as well as scheduled services to Africa.

The airline's main bases are Manchester International Airport (MAN) and London Gatwick Airport (LGW).

Services

Astraeus operates scheduled services to the following destinations (at February 2005):

• London Gatwick to Accra (Ghana), Freetown (Sierra Leone), Malabo (Equatorial Guinea) and Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt)
• Manchester to Sharm El Sheikh

Astraeus is also responsible for all operations on behalf of Iceland Express, a low cost Icelandic airline.

History

The airline was established on 17 January 2002 and started operations on 6 April in that same year.

The use of Boeing 737-700 aircraft for extended range operations led to the launch in December 2004 of trans-Atlantic charters between London Gatwick and Deer Lake in Newfoundland, Canada.

In 2004 Astraeus opened up new routes from London to Aqaba (Jordan) and Simferopol (Ukraine), with flights to the new Mediterranean resort area of El Alamein (Egypt) due to commence in 2005.
