Schibsted ASA (or Schibsted Group) is one of the largest media groups in Scandinavia.

Schibsted's operates in various media fields:

Most of the company's operations are based in Norway and Sweden, but the group has operations in 11 European countries; Spain, France and Switzerland among others.

There are about 8,3 million daily readers of the company's newspapers (including the regional newspapers), the daily circulation of the newspapers is about 3 million.

The company employs about 4.760 people, of which about 2.310 people work outside of Norway.

Subsidiaries

History

The company was established when in 1839 Christian Schibsted started a small book printing business in Oslo.

In 1992 the company was listed on the Stockholm stock exchange.

In 1966 the company acquired the VG AS newspaper. A paper which was founded in 1945 a group of veterans from the resistance movement. The takeover of VG marked the beginning of the Schibsted Group.

In 1991 Schibsted applied for a government permit to establish an independent commercial television channel, TV 2 AS. Today, Schibsted owns 33.33% of this channel.

In 1996 Schibsted acquired Aftonbladet, which is the largest newspaper in the Nordic region.

In 1998 Schibsted acquired Svenska Dagbladet.

Operating revenues in 2004 were NOK 9.690 million.
