Interwiki links
Hi Walden. I'd find it very useful if you enabled some of the most common interwiki links. Here is the current interwiki setup for Consumerium in SQL-form so you can just run it if you find it to be sufficient for interwiki needs of Wikicompany. There are more complete interwiki lists in maintenance/ subdirectory (the files wikipedia-interwiki.sql interwiki.sql and wiktionary-interwiki.sql). The last field which contains either 0 or 1 is used to determine if redirecting to that interwiki space is allowed or not (though brion iirc wasn't sure if the last field is actually in use in the current MediaWiki (ie. this interwiki redirection may not be implemented at all).
After interwiki is enabled w:Fair trade will link to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_trade and w:fr:Commerce équitable will link to http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commerce_%c3%a9quitable
I wish all the best for this project, we are in the GFDL part of the world after all ;) --Juxo 20:51, 24 Aug 2005 (CEST)
- I added the "w:" interwiki for easy English Wikipedia linking. Thanks for these tips. Walden 23:20, 29 Aug 2005 (CEST)

Mediawiki search does not work on literal strings
Hi. I was wondering why the Job- Community Superintendent - Montgomery County Public Schools – Maryland was showing up on the Cluster Resources profile? It has nothing to do with the company, is there anyway I can change it?
- I'm aware of this bug. Its caused by the fact that the Mediawiki's search engine currently does not work on literal strings. The engine just searches for each word in the article. I'm hoping this will be fixed soon, since it would generate much better results. Walden
Related articles question
Hi, I’m still new at this so I have another question. The Related Companies showing up on the cluster resources Wikicompany site are not ones that we’re related to or ones that we want to be related to. Can I put certain companies (that are in Wikicompany) on there? Also, United Devices shows up as a related company on our site but we don’t show up as a related company on their Wikicompany site. If they show up on ours shouldn’t we show up on theirs?
Thanks for all your help!
- The "related article" feature on Wikicompany only works if some string matches in some other profile on Wikicompany. Its not really a smart system, but it works somewhat (minus the "literal search" problem). However, you can add partners, subsidiaries, competitors, etc. If you add United Devices as a competitor using "competitor::United Devices", you will show up in the United Devices article.
- A future improvement of this system will probably be to show predictions of potential competitors, partners, and customers, based on some semantical queries of the existing company relations/sectors/regions. Walden
cloud & publish extensions
Hi,
Just wondering if you're able to put your extensions into the Meta Extensions repository so other mediawiki users can benefit from your expertise! I'm very interested in both your cloud and publish extensions, and if you do not want to release them to the general public, are you able to send them to me for my site, http://www.sciteam.ubc.ca?
Thanks,

Hello Walden, I am also interested in your publish extension. Is it available to use on other mediawiki sites? If not, I am wondering if it is made from the inputbox extension found on mediawiki. Any info you might be able to provide on this, would be a big help. Thank You--Rovo 19:37, 8 December 2006 (CET)

No and No. Sorry, but you need to write your own. Initially I had planned on releasing some project code, but I've had too much negative feedback from the Wikipedia and Wikimania people. And I've simply had very little support for the Wikicompany project from others. Perhaps this will change some day. - Walden 03:19, 9 December 2006 (CET)

If your that upset with them, maybe try using a different OPENSOURCE product. --Rovo 21:41, 11 December 2006 (CET) jeez no wonder
- I'm not upset, you seem to be. Perhaps you should first learn what free software is. You are not entitled to anything from me. - Walden
- You of course owe me nothing. But to say you've recieved little support for your site, when the whole thing is resting on a framework built and provided free of charge to you, and then decide not to share insights you've discovered regarding new areas within it, seems ironic. Something just doesn't add up there. Also, I've thought it over a bit and have come to the conclusion that your site has been done in vain. Everything this site has to offer, is more comprehensiably available on google finance. Honestly I don't think you can compete with google unless you have a few billion dollars. Best I can recommend, is take all that you've learned how to do with mediawiki and develop a different wiki community. I'm not upset, just dissapointed. One more note, I use IE 7 and the login box is not accessible. I would help suggest how to fix that if I could, but am still pretty new to this. Best to you. --Rovo 18:41, 12 December 2006 (CET)
