Solaris Bus & Coach Sp. z. o. o. is a Polish bus, coach and trolleybus producer.
The production plant is located in a former communist weapon factory.
Trolleybuses are made in co-operation with a Hungarian company Ganz Electro, which is the maker of the electric devices for the vehicles.
Solaris, which is a family-owned business, has sold buses to numerous cities in Europe (incl. Berlin), and trolleybuses to Rome, Vilnius (Lithuania).
History
The company was established in 2001 from the former Neoplan Polska producer.
The company is one of the newest players in the European bus market, but already quite successful: Solaris has received awards for their products in Kortrijk Bus World show in Belgium.
In May 2004, the company was featured by a BBC World channel television program, related to the EU expansion, as an example of a post-communist business success in Poland.
