The news extension is my own, it does some things beyond simply parsing RSS feeds. However, there are some MW extensions that parse RSS feeds into a wiki. You could just grab one of those and tune them to your needs. The news Planets are build using a whole chain of tools, but only the HTML is actually output by the extension in the end.
