PBM Nutritionals, LLC, is the only ISO 9001:2000-certified, infant formula-manufacturing facility in the United States. Based in northern Vermont, PBM Nutritionals is the only baby formula company that adheres to both FDA infant formula guidelines and a stringent set of quality-assurance regulations set by the International Organization for Standardization.

Our baby formula company proudly manufactures powder infant and toddler formulas for leading retailers around the globe:

  • Canada
  • Mexico
  • Europe
  • China
  • South Africa

An affiliate company, PBM Products, LLC, markets and distributes the infant and toddler formula products to more than 20,000 retail locations throughout the world. In 2006, PBM introduced specialty infant formulas, including the first organic formula containing the lipids DHA and ARA, and a partially hydrolyzed formula for babies experiencing fussiness or gas.

PBM's infant formulas also meet the nutritional levels recommended by the U.S. National Academy of Science-National Research Council and the American Academy of Pediatrics, the largest organization of pediatricians dedicated to the health and well-being of infants and children.

Organic Formula, Organic Growth

PBM Products markets and distributes infant and toddler formulas, diabetic products and other pediatric nutritional products to leading retailers throughout the United States. The company was the first to introduce private label (store brand) infant formula in the U.S.A.

With its expanding product lines, retail partners, and customer base, the PBM family of companies is expanding in food, nutritional, and pharmaceutical product categories in the United States and overseas. In 2007 PBM was ranked by Entrepreneur Magazine among the Hot 500 fastest-growing businesses in America.

Our state-of-the-art facility has been manufacturing infant formula products for more than 20 years. During the past decade, we have been experiencing exponential growth as it continues to rollout new products for new domestic and international customers. Part of this growth initiative means keeping pace with food and drug retailers and supermarket chains that are looking for ways to provide specialty products to different types of customers.

In line with this customer-centric strategy, we have expanded our offerings and have attained requisite certifications for diverse retail partner and customer base:

  • PBM has purchased the exclusive worldwide rights to Profylac®, a hypoallergenic infant formula for children with severe food allergies.
  • Our baby formula plant recently became certified kosher by the Orthodox Union (OU), meaning that its powder infant formulas may be consumed by all those who observe kosher dietary laws, as well as by many others who have special dietary requirements, such as Moslems and Seventh Day Adventists. It also serves as a guide to millions of individuals who are vegetarian or lactose intolerant.
  • PBM Nutritionals is approved by Quality Assurance International (QAI) to manufacture organic milk-based powder infant formula that is compliant with the comprehensive U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) organic regulations.

PBM Nutritionals Infant Formula University

PBM Nutritionals has introduced its own Infant Formula University, a groundbreaking method for communicating the complexity and the quality of its formula production process to employees and other stakeholders. The intent of Infant Formula University is to educate our employees and retail customers on the hard work and care that goes into making infant formula from start to finish.

Interactive and hands-on, the university curriculum spans two days of on-the-job coursework from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. The first day of class begins with a pre-entrance exam to find out what the "students" already know about the infant formula-manufacturing process. After the initial exam, however, students embark on a unique educational experience that involves a variety of applied functions, including:

  • Placing base ingredients such as lactose into an auger
  • Adding PUFAs—omega-3 (DHA)and omega-6 (ARA) polyunsaturated fatty acids—and other ingredients to the processing mix
  • Using computers to track the process of each tank
  • Record-keeping and verifying information
  • Working in (and "punching") the Dryer
  • Filling, labeling, and tray packing processes

The intent of PBM Infant Formula University is threefold:

  • We want to educate all employees and stakeholders about our core powder infant formula business.
  • We want to expose PBM Companies, employees, and retail partners to the different functions and processes involved in making infant formula.
  • We believe this knowledge will facilitate better decision making that will help us run our baby formula company more effectively.

Baby Formula Quiz?

Baby Formula Quiz, at www.BabyFormulaQuiz.com, is also the brainchild of PBM Nutritionals. In the spirit of nutritional education, we created BabyFormulaQuiz.com to extend some of our Infant Formula University curriculum to parents across the country. Interactive and hands-on, our site calculates your Baby Formula IQ based on your answers to our questions. Our hope is to educate and reward parents with baby formula coupons.

Infant Formula 101

The underlying theme of our educational efforts centers on one important fact:

  • All infant formulas sold in the United States are required to be manufactured in accordance with, and meet the strict nutritional requirements of, the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act for infant formula under the regulation of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
  • Infant formula manufactured by PBM Nutritionals is nutritionally complete and meets the strict infant formula nutritional guidelines determined by the FDA.
