  • "The Dogon people of Mali speak of primordial, proto–human beings called Nommo, who shared attributes with mudfish and snakes— animals often considered “amorphous and virtual” and “everything that has not yet acquired form,” as Mircea Eliade (1959, 148) put it. According to the famous Dogon sage Ogotemmeli (Griaule 1970), Nommo had unarticulated serpentine members, undifferentiated gender, and other traits embodying all that is potential and not yet formalized. One Nommo decided to defy God by stealing a piece of the sun to bring fire to earth as the basis of human culture. The Nommo fitted out a granary (or silo) as an ark for his descent, with all categories of plant, animal, and human ethnicity necessary to the world that humans would come to know. As he began his trip downward along the rainbow, God discovered the Nommo’s betrayal and furiously hurled lightning bolts that so accelerated the ark’s trajectory that it crashed to earth. As it did, the plants, animals, and people it bore were dispersed to their present locations, and the snakelike arms and legs of the Nommo were broken at what would become the shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles: body parts and appendages necessary for the Dogon agricultural lifestyle." - Encyclopedia of African Folklore, 2004

  • "Given the strong associations between the Pleiad Taygete, Artemis, virgin maidens, and Sparta, it is particularly interesting that the name Pleiades appears in association with the choruses of virgin girls for which Sparta was famous. The Pleiades are specifically mentioned in one of the parthenia, or “maiden songs,” written by the poet Alcman in the late seventh or early sixth century B.C.E. In the largest extant fragment of one of his songs, which was performed at dawn by parthenoi, probably in honor of Artemis of the Dawn (Artemis Orthria), the maidens speak of carrying some kind of offering item to the god- dess. As they carry this item, the girls sing: A Pleiades of doves [the maidens Hagesichora and Agido] are Contending at dawn before the altar of Artemis For the honor of offering the sacred pharos [plow or peplos] Which we have brought to the goddess. They are the white star Sirius rising In the honey and spice of a summer night. - (Archilochos et al. 1980, 139, trans. Davenport)68 That Sirius was another star famed in antiquity for its practical and mystical resonances indicates that the song is indeed referencing the Pleiades-as-asterim. What is being described here is a summertime dawn ritual in which maidens apparently competed for the honor of offering a sacred item to Artemis Orthria. The item in question was the pharos, which has been variously translated as peplos, that is, a “sacred cloak or mantle,” or arotron, “plow.” Garzya (in Alcman 1954, 56–7) discusses scholarly arguments in favor of both interpretations, and notes that in terms of actual cult practices, both types of objects were presented in Greek rites. Each translation offers interesting possibili- ties about the meaning of this ritual that, I contend, are congruent with the idea that it refers to holy parthenoi as priestesses of divine birth in association with the Pleiades. I propose that the translation of pharos as aratron, “plow,” lends to the interpretation that this particular hymn, sung at dawn, was conducted on the day of the heliacal (dawn) rise of the Pleiades in mid-May. As we will recall, this was the time that commemorated the beginning of summer and the harvest season. That the girls may have been presenting the goddess of dawn, a version of Artemis, with an agricultural implement would be somewhat in concordance with this interpretation, even though a plow may have been more appropriate to the winter season, the time of sowing. I contend the song would have been an allusion to much more than just the physical commencement of the harvest, however. The maidens spoken about, Hagesichora and Agido, are here identified as “Pleiades” in their aspect as doves, which indicates that we are also in the realm of divine birth. For it was in their aspect as holy parthenoi that the Seven Sisters were transformed to doves in myth. Additionally, the dove, as I argued earlier, was a reference both to the bird that parthenogenetically bore Aphrodite, and to the incarnating “divine” soul. During this ritual, the maidens were identified with Pleiades-as- doves not only in text, but also by virtue of the fact that, as Daven- port (in Archilochos et al. 1980, 137) reports, the entire chorus of girls was dressed to resemble doves. I propose this indicates that all girls present were understood to have assumed the identity of the Pleiades as both mystical asterism and parthenogenetic Seven Sisters. The primary characteristic of the chorus is that it was composed of parthenoi, virgin maidens. Thus, I propose that if we understand pharos as “plow,” the song reveals that the girls were understood to reference the starry Pleiades not just as the harbinger of the summer harvest, but as the source of their founding ancestors, the Pleiadian son Lacedaemon among them. It also suggests that the chorus girls were “representatives” of the holy parthenoi believed to have borne such divine children. The chorus parthenoi themselves, then, stood as representatives of the original (and possibly, by Alcman’s time, no longer functioning) divine birth priestesshood. At a deeper level, the ritual, which honors the goddess Artemis, in particular, the Virgin Mother herself, may well have held an earlier memory of pure parthe- nogenesis, rather than hieros gamos divine birth." - The Cult of Divine Birth in Ancient Greece, p166

"The star Alcyone of the Pleiades is our central sun. The Incas, Maya and many other star gazing cultures demonstrated that our Sun moves around the galaxy, above and below the ecliptic along the trajectory of a vortex, where Alcyone sits at it's apex. The first migrations from stars which are within the master vortex of Alycone would most likely be to one of the other "Seven Sisters". Our Sun is the Seventh Star out from Alcyone. So, we are at the end of the trail within our group. A point that may cause confusion is the fact that we count Alcyone as one of the "seven sisters" from our Earthly perspective, when in reality she is the mother star. We 7 other stars are sisters. Alcyone birthed our Sister Suns and we would be the oldest, according to Russell's Cosmology, being that we are the furthest out. We 7 stars all follow in her trail according to her trajectory. Just like Quasars following their mother galaxies in the same spiral trajectory after their Supernova Type 2 births. According to the Seris (of northwestern Mexico), these stars are seven women who are giving birth. The constellation is known as Cmaamc, which is apparently an archaic plural of the noun cmaam "woman"." [63]

    • "Pleiades: The Tzolk'in is the sacred calendar of the Maya and is based on the cycles of the Pleiades. The cycle of the Pleiades uses 26,000 years, that the Sun orbiting Alcyone, the central star of the Pleiades, but is reflected in the calendar we are using by encompassing 260 days. Their calendar year began when the Maya priests first remarked the asterism rising heliacally in the east, immediately before the sun's dawn light obliterated the view of the stars. In the beginning, the Maya understood that they came from the Pleiades, or “Tzab-ek", (Rattlesnake's tail), as they are known by the Maya. The relationship with the Pleiades and the Mayan world is written in the sacred books of the Maya. It is in the consciousness of the grandmothers and grandfathers who had it passed on to them. It is an important record. The elders say the universe comes from the Pleiades. With the Hubble Telescope, it was discovered about ten years ago, that there is a place where stars are born in a great spiral that originates at the site of the Pleiades, outside of the spiral is complete empty space. In coordination with the galactic precession, the Mayas also look at the precession of time through the Pleiades. Alcyone, the central star of the Pleiades, is located at 30 degrees from Taurus, near the constellation Orion. Alcyone, in Taurus, represents the Earth Goddess. The lessons from Alcyone are those dealing with compassion, higher wisdom and vision, and Earth consciousness. Much has been channeled from the Pleiades. Alcyone figures prominently in Mayan astronomy. The Mayas believe it is the home of their ancestors. The Pleiades star system is referred to as the seven sisters and our sun aligns with Alcyone every 52 years. In Mayan cosmology the precession of the Pleiades is tracked using the Calendar Round (52 years) and the New Fire ceremony. In the Early Preclassic Site of Ujuxte, in the Pacific Lowlands, the central plaza appears to have a celestial alignment that coincides with the rise and fall of the Pleiades, This is also right for the Stelas and Altars from Monte Alto. The present-day Maya in Guatemala, make use of the Pleiades to begin their planting for the year." [64]

They had a population of 600 persons, who sheltered themselves over the 4 hundred meters of altitude in the Peruvian Andean, in order to escape from the Spanish colonizer.   • "Except for Dubhe and Alkaid, the stars of the Big Dipper all have proper motions heading towards a common point in Sagittarius. A few other such stars have been identified, and together they are called the Ursa Major Moving Group. Mizar, a star in the Big Dipper, forms the famous optical double star with Alcor. The stars Merak (β Ursae Majoris) and Dubhe (α Ursae Majoris) are known as the "pointer stars" because they are helpful for finding Polaris, also known as the Northern Pole Star. By visually tracing a line from Merak through Dubhe and continuing, one's eye will land on Polaris, accurately indicating true north." [70]
